Sanatan Dharma
The Religious Philosophy
of Hinduism

Our lineage, or vansh, connects us to a timeless spiritual heritage that spans countless generations. The concept of pitru rin—the debt owed to our ancestors—emphasizes the responsibility we bear in honoring and remembering them through rituals like shraddha and tarpan. Understanding our gotra and family history helps preserve the values, traditions, and wisdom passed down by the rishis and elders. It deepens our sense of identity, guiding us to live with purpose and reverence for the past. In essence, tracing our ancestral roots is a way of aligning with dharma, ensuring that the legacy of Sanatan values continues to illuminate future generations.

The Generation Tree

Today, a significant portion of the younger generation remains largely unaware—often unintentionally—of the vital role that ancestors play in shaping their identity, values, and cultural heritage.

This disconnect extends to a lack of understanding about their lineage, familial roots, and the enduring traditions embedded within them. As a result, the profound significance of ancestral knowledge, which has been an integral part of individual and collective identity in Sanatan Dharma, is gradually being overlooked or forgotten.
